Keeping your website fresh and updated is important at any time of the year.

With the long dark nights of November here and the run-up to Christmas now well underway, here are five essential website updates for this special month.
1: Seasonal content
As you’ll probably know, here at itseeze in Gloucestershire, we always encourage you to include useful and informative website content that will help your customers and prospects.

A nice way to do this is to add content that relates to the current month or season.

Just as we have done here with ‘Remember, Remember,’ you could include a page about Halloween or Fireworks or you could add a blog about keeping on top of the Christmas countdown.

This last one is especially important for online retailers.

2: Share on social
It is always a good idea to promote your website via social media.

Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook are all always hungry for new content, so do have a look at each one to give you an idea of which will be the best for your business.

Sharing your updates through social media will help to drive people back to your site.

3: Check your links
Ensuring your website is Search Engine Optimised and that you show up when people Google search for local business like yours, is always important.

This is, of course, all about your Google ranking and a strong way to support this is by ‘link building.’

Link building is simply making sure that you have links within your website to other sites.

For example if you are a will writer, ideally you will have a link in your website to The Society of Will Writers (and/or similar organisations) and that they will link back to you.

This gives your business credibility and gives your customers and prospects additional, relevant information.

4: Work behind the scenes
There’s a bit of behind the scenes work to do too.

This is checking that your CMS (Content Management System) has the right Metatags and page descriptions.

This is also, all about Search Engine Optimisation.

If you do not update your website content yourself, then ask your provider to check that your Metatags and page descriptions are strong and if you’re unsure, do feel free to call us for some straightforward and free advice.

5: Get the right image
It is easy for any website to retain the same photos for months and, in some cases, even years.

Updating your images is always a good idea and should be easy to do.

You could use the monthly or seasonal theme here too. Why not for example, create a fireworks-themed homepage for November, or share an update about the Halloween party the team is attending?

Once again, this is all about showing that your business is busy, active and engaged.
